Reflections on Social Networking

As I reflect back on the material that we have covered this semester, I definitely have a better appreciation on how social networking and blogs can be used for business purposes. Before this semester I considered blogs and social networking just for social purposes and casual reading. While I think that currently social networking and blogs are best used in applications that are not directly tied to business, such as socializing, political discussions, and social good/volunteerism, I do see the potential for greater uses in business.

I think as time goes on, we will see business figure out how to make better use of social networking. I see tremendous potential with sites liked LinkedIn to build business relationships with people that have a similar interest in business. While I am not bullish on the use of Second Life for business, there will definitely be business applications where virtualization will be used in the future.

I cannot foresee all of the new ways that social networking will be used in the future, but I would like to hear about the ways that you can think of.

while I agree that in this day and age we can't imagine the use of applications like Second Life in the future we cannot predict something like the casuality of a future work environment. Who knows? Going the ways things are where we more consistantly don't dress formally to work and we call our bosses by their first names we could one day be using applications like second life and social networks as our main way of connecting with our co-workers.

Same hear, I was thinking that blogs only used for fun, no benefit out of it. But now I knew that we are lucky for having this kind of technology, because it made people closer to each other.
I think it will be more organized and sure inventors will learn from users what the weakness of using it is, in order to make it better.

I never thought about the full uses of blogs before taking this class. And after learning about the different uses and mediums, blogs really do bring people together. While there are clearly sites that aim to do that, such as LinkedIn, Myspace, blogging creates its own community of readers- in turn opening up a whole new "group" of people.
